Transition Assessment Package (TAP)

Transition between primary and secondary can be a difficult time for children. Where they struggle to assimilate and are not given the right support, it can have a knock-on effect into Year 8 and even beyond.

The Transition Assessment Package (TAP) allows you to create a comprehensive profile of every pupil as they enter into Year 7, looking at their ability, attainment and any learning barriers they may have - and monitor the progress they make through KS3.

Ability

Using CAT4 you can understand your pupils’ developed abilities and likely academic potential with a comprehensive picture of strengths, weaknesses and learning preferences. By testing each pupil with CAT4 upon entry you establish a robust ‘baseline’ for performance on entry, from which you can set targets and track progress.

Attainment

  1. Using PTE, PTM and PTS you can accurately pinpoint pupils’ attainment level in the core subjects benchmarked against the national average, and monitor subsequent progress made up to GCSE level. 
  2. Using NGRT you can reliably pinpoint pupils’ reading level benchmarked against the national average and monitor reading and comprehension skills as they progress through KS3.

 

Attitudes

Using PASS on Transition helps you to identify any underlying learning barriers that may explain discrepancies between ability and attainment results. 

The importance of data

Combined with teacher judgement, data can provide valuable insight into pupils’ learning profile, supporting teaching and intervention strategies and providing evidence for inspection bodies. The Transition Assessment Package has been shown to dramatically improve outcomes for learners in the years following transition.

The reports within Progress Test in English (PTE) and Progress Test in Maths (PTM) feature new indicators showing what a student could achieve in their English language and maths GCSEs based on scores from PTE and PTM.

The Standard Age Score


Comparing pupils by Standard Age Score (SAS) is one of the fairest and most accurate ways of benchmarking and monitoring their progress, enabling comparison within a year group, across year groups and against the national standard.

It also enables scores from more than one test to be compared meaningfully – providing you with an easy way of comparing attitude, ability and attainment.
