12 January 2017 – Boardworks, a provider of digital curriculum content and the creator of the highly successful formative assessment platform, Doddle, will now form part of GL Assessment, the UK’s largest provider of formative assessments for schools.
Boardworks was founded by David Blake and Julie Kilcoyne in 2000 and it launched its formative assessment platform, Doddle, in 2012. Doddle has become a fast-growing solution for schools to improve student outcomes by addressing the new challenges of ‘life after levels’ and the new Progress 8 and Attainment 8 measures.
At the heart of the platform is data showing security of learning per pupil for each element of the curriculum. This diagnosis is used to inform teachers, students and parents; to provide formative learning content; and to allow schools to track progress efficiently.
Greg Watson, Chief Executive of GL Assessment, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have Boardworks as part of GL Assessment, and to welcome David and Julie to the team. The Boardworks’ portfolio will enable us to broaden the tools we can offer to schools and Multi Academy Trusts as they wrestle with new accountability measures and the return to linear (end-of-course) GCSE exams, and it is the perfect complement to our existing range of assessments."
Julie Kilcoyne and David Blake, Co-Founders of Boardworks, said: "This is a really important development for Boardworks and Doddle. We know that we make a real difference to student outcomes, but that we're only at the start of that journey in terms of scale. Both Boardworks and GL Assessment share the same vision of how data and diagnosis can help improve outcomes, and we look forward to working together.”
