Single Word Reading Test (SWRT)

A word reading test for year-on-year assessment and access arrangements.

The Single Word Reading Test (SWRT) provides a measure of a child's word reading skills and will contribute to an assessment of reading achievement, as well as informing teaching and learning strategies.

Individually administered SWRT contains six graded sets of ten words of increased difficulty. Parallel forms allow repeat testing and vast amount of diagnostic information can be obtained in the form of sight vocabulary analysis and error analysis. It is ideal as a quick screening test for checking progress at regular intervals and as part of the qualifying criteria for Access Arrangements.

Why use SWRT?

  • SWRT is an ideal assessment for year-on-year monitoring of a pupil’s word reading skills
  • Fully standardised - the test provides Standard Age Scores and reading ages and is suitable for Access Arrangements
  • It will help inform teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of individual pupil’s and their differing abilities
  • It provides diagnostic information in the form of sight vocabulary analysis and error analysis
  • The test is completely photocopiable.
