Closing the reading gap

Our assessments provide robust evidence to empower decision-making and to prioritise and target support effectively.
How can we help
  • Establish and track levels of literacy, and pinpoint areas for targeted support - New Group Reading Test (NGRT), New Group Spelling Test (NGST)
  • Compare CAT4 data and data from our reading assessment, NGRT, or attainment data from our Progress Test in English using our unique combination report. This will help identify disparities between ability and attainment - Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4), New Group Reading Test (NGRT), Progress Test in English (PTE)
  • Track and support students who aren’t making the expected level of progress - Progress Test in English (PTE)
  • Identify any barriers to learning through understanding students’ attitudes to learning - Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS)
  • Diagnostic reading pathways give detailed advice on how to further support students with reading difficulties - YARC
Your ability to read is an essential part of your toolkit to learn, so we need to understand how well our students read and where the gaps lie.
