Progress Test in Maths across Trusts

Track student attainment and progress in maths.

The Progress Test in Maths (PTM) assessments enable you to accurately measure how your school and your students are performing – student by student, class by class and year by year.

Standardised on over 45,000 children, the easy-to-use tests assess students’ mathematical skills and knowledge, helping you to understand current levels of attainment and identify any gaps in learning at both an individual and cohort level.

PTM assesses two dimensions of maths learning:

  1. Mathematical content knowledge (curriculum category)
  1. Understanding and applying mathematical processes (process category)

The tests can be used at the start of the year for baselining and at the end of the year to measure and track progressA dedicated transition test is available, designed specifically for the start of secondary school. Detailed reports for teachers analyse key dimensions of learning and provide a question-by-question breakdown to help identify those students who may need extra support, and in which areas.

This page provides information on the Progress Test in Maths tailored to Trusts.

Launched in 2022 – Form B offers greater flexibility and choice:

  • New set of questions for each level – Form B provides an alternative test for schools who have previously used PT Series on a regular basis
  • Measure the summer dip – Form B (Autumn) is a resit of Form A (Summer), so the same test with different questions

  • Allows you to have two in-year tests - one at the beginning of September and another in the summer. Ideal for measuring progress pupils have made during their time in your classroom
