LASS 8–11 comprises three attainment sub-tests (single word reading, sentence reading and spelling), two ability subtests (verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning) and four diagnostic sub-tests (auditory memory, visual memory, phonic skills and phonological processing).
LASS can be administered with minimal training using the guidance in the manual. This means that teaching assistants can conduct the assessment.
However, interpreting LASS results should be left to a qualified teacher, usually a SENCO. It is essential that you read the LASS Teacher’s Manual before attempting to interpret results. Helpful case studies and teaching suggestions in the manual and on our website will further support you with interpretation.
We don’t generally recommend this.
Re-testing is highly likely to produce results that have been influenced in some way, making them less likely to be valid or reliable. However, exceptional situations may arise when you feel the need to re-administer one or more of the sub-tests in LASS – this would typically be after at least six months to avoid the practice effect.
Rapid provides a quick, initial screening tool. Its results feed directly into the CoPS 4–7 and LASS 8 –11 tests for those children who require additional testing.
