Dyslexia Portfolio

Evaluate literacy, processing and memory skills, as a follow up to the Dyslexia Screener or independently.

Use nine subtests to develop a detailed profile of an individual’s strengths and challenges, and to identify and support particular areas of difficulty in literacy learning.

The Portfolio comes with an online Report Generation Tool, complete with Standard Age Scores and recommendations for appropriate support and intervention. A comprehensive parent/carer report is also available to support communication with families.

How Dyslexia Portfolio can help you

Individual screening tool

This assessment is an in-depth, individual evaluation that provides a comprehensive overview of a student’s difficulties to inform intervention. Results from the Dyslexia Portfolio can also be used as evidence for access arrangements in the JCQ Form 8 (if administered by a qualified specialist assessor).

What are the subtests/skills assessed?

  • Single word reading test
  • Single word spelling test
  • Naming speed
  • Reading speed
  • Phoneme deletion
  • Nonword reading
  • Recall of digits – forward
  • Free writing or copying
  • Phonic skills

Does the Dyslexia Portfolio include a dyslexia index within the report, like the Dyslexia Screener?

To create a dyslexia index, a general ability score needs to be submitted from another assessment. These include: BPVS, CAT4 (NVR), Dyslexia Screener.

Does the student need to complete all subtests in one sitting?

No, where a student may experience challenges maintaining attention for extended periods, it is recommended that rest breaks are offered. It is possible to complete subtests over several days, but we would suggest that all tests are completed within a week.

How can I support students whose reports indicate specific challenges?

This will be different from student to student, depending on their results. In some instances, you may wish to make adaptations to universal provision and in others you might need to complete further investigations.

The Dyslexia Guidance Handbook (available to purchase separately) gives you practical advice on supporting pupils, from early years to higher education. It has specific teaching strategies and activities that have proven effective in helping pupils achieve their potential. It also includes additional information to support staff with understanding dyslexia.
