The Schedule of Growing Skills provides a rapid and reliable measure of child development through the assessment of nine key areas: Passive Posture, Active Posture, Locomotor, Manipulative, Visual, Hearing and Language, Speech and Language, Interactive Social and Self-Care Social.
It includes clear instructions for the administration of the guided activities, interpreting the results and enabling feedback all to be delivered in an hour.
Each record form allows up to four assessments per child, indicating progress over time, while a simple scoring system highlights their strengths and developmental areas where they might have a delay, indicating where a referral might be necessary.
Uses appealing toys such as building blocks, a doll, pegs and shapes encourages children to participate while you observe and assess reactions.
Using the Schedule of Growing Skills ensures that all children are assessed in a consistent way and that only those children who really need it are referred for more detailed investigation.
The child profile shows development in a clear graphic style, giving you an accessible basis for discussion with other child professionals and parents.
A comprehensive training introduction to Schedule of Growing Skills is available. The course includes in-depth guidance on how to administer the items, including examples of good practice, together with scoring procedures. The course is not mandatory for SGS users, but attendees have found it an invaluable introduction to the assessment.
