Transition Assessments
Many primary schools have needed to plug the data gap left by the cancellation of SATs in Key Stages 1 and 2. At secondary, quickly securing a sound transition into Key Stage 3 is vital in ensuring students go on to achieve their potential at GCSE and beyond.
Find out how our transition assessments can help. All of these assessments are available for primary and secondary aged children.
CAT4 - The UK’s most widely-used test of reasoning abilities
Our Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) is the UK’s most widely-used test of reasoning abilities for children aged 6-17+. As it measures verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning, it helps you establish a sound baseline so you can pinpoint those pupils who need further stretch and understand achievement across key groups.
CAT4 is standardised on 25,000 pupils with results verified each year, enabling you to accurately baseline your pupils against trusted national benchmarks.
It includes reliable indicators for national tests and examinations including Key Stage 2 SATs, GCSEs and A levels. Last year, GL Assessment and FFT also launched an enhanced assessment tool that uses Year 7 CAT4 data within FFT’s Aspire analysis to help indicate a student’s targets for GCSE. From this autumn schools will have the option of additionally using the service with all students from Year 8 to Year 11, extending the tracker across Key Stage 3 and 4.
NGRT - A standardised, adaptive, termly assessment to measure reading skills
The New Group Reading Test is a standardised, termly assessment that reliably measures reading skills to help schools get to the root of any problems precisely and quickly. As it’s adaptive, it offers a personalised experience for each pupil, ensuring it’s accessible for the children who are struggling and challenging those who need to be stretched.
NGRT provides you with a Standard Age Score (SAS), a reading age, Key Stage 2 or GCSE indicators and progress measures as well as practical guidance for next steps.
Progress Test Series – Measures attainment and progress in English, maths and science
Measuring attainment in English, maths and science, our Progress Test Series can be used at the start of the academic year for baselining, at the middle or end of the year to measure progress, and then year-on-year. Reports are set against national averages so you can reliably compare your results with those of schools across the country.
You can compare CAT4 data and data from NGRT and the Progress Test in English and Maths using our unique combination report which allows you to identify disparities between ability and attainment.
PASS - Sensitively explores social and emotional wellbeing
Our Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) assessment takes the guesswork out of understanding why pupils may be reluctant, disengaged or even disruptive learners by sensitively exploring social and emotional wellbeing. It also provides interventions and guidance so you can start to address issues immediately.
