Assessing reading and comprehension skills of students from age 12 to 16
Developed by reading experts from the Centre for Reading and Language at the University of York, the York Assessment of Reading for Comprehension (YARC) Passage Reading Secondary comprises a series of prose passages – both fiction and non-fiction – that enables the assessment of a student’s reading comprehension and fluency in a systematic way across the secondary school years.
Benefits:
- Helps teachers to monitor students across the Secondary phase
- Assesses students at transition, especially where attainment in English is below average or low
- Provides evidence for Access Arrangements in public examinations (or Assessment Arrangements in Scotland)
- Acts as an ideal assessment before and after a specific intervention programme
