About WellComm
WellComm is a complete speech and language toolkit that can be used by all Early Years practitioners, not just speech and language specialists.
Suitable for children aged 6 months - 6 years, it provides a valuable combination of screening and intervention tools. The screening element clearly identifies children requiring immediate intervention, as well as those showing potential language difficulties. Support beyond identification is provided through follow-on intervention activities that are included in the Big Book of Ideas.
The Year of Communication
WellComm is ideal for supporting the National Year of Communication in 2011. You can visit the Hello campaign website to read more about how Warwickshire County Council and Quinzone EAZ in Birmingham are using WellComm as a speech and langauge toolkit in nurseries, children's centres and other pre-school settings.
Benefits
- Aids early identification of speech and language difficulties

The Big Book of Ideas
The
Big Book of Ideas is packed full of specific and targeted intervention
strategies that can be implemented in a way that is fun and motivating
to the child. The activities can be put into practice by all Early
Years professionals and are easily shared with parents.
All activities are photocopiable and can be printed from the
Resources CD that is included in the WellComm toolkit.
Responding to government initiatives
In December 2008, the "Better Communication" action plan was released by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) as a result of the welcomed findings in "The Bercow Report: A review of services for children and young people (0-19) with speech, language and communication needs". As well as emphasising the importance of early identification and intervention, both documents also stress that speech, language and communication needs must be recognised by all people who work with and care for children, not just specialists. The WellComm toolkit is a useful vehicle in achieving these aims.
