2. How long does the SGS training course last?
The day starts at 9am with coffee for all delegates and will be finished by 5pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
3. What if I can’t attend the training
dates for my area?
If you are unable to attend the training dates in your area, please call customer services on 01793-516-311. They will be able to advise you of any training courses in the immediate area, any cancellations, or any additional courses planned.
4. I already use SGS. Do I need to be trained
again?
Yes. As SGS has been specifically customised for the Flying Start project, all Flying Start professionals will need to receive training to be familiar with the new elements.
All Flying Start professionals will also need to receive accreditation via the training days before administering SGS.
5. What will the training course cover? Do
I need to bring anything to the course?
The training day is composed of 3 main areas:
• How to administer items
• How to score the Record Form
• How to complete the Profile Form
You do not need to bring any specific equipment to the training; however a pen and writing pad is always handy!
6. Do I have to do any pre-reading for the
course?
Yes. You are advised to read a brief introduction to SGS before the training course. This will help to familiarise you with the background to SGS, its components and how it can be used. This document can be found at www.gl-assessment.co.uk/flyingstart. It should take approximately 15 minutes to read this document.
7. How will I be assessed for competency in
using SGS?
Delegates will be assessed for competency at the end of the training day.
They will be required to watch a video clip of SGS being administered on a 2-year old boy. Delegates are required to observe which items the child can achieve and mark the relevant items on a Record Form. Delegates will then be given a short amount of time to add up and transfer their scores onto a Profile Form.
Delegates are required to score at least 15 out of the 18 subset skill sections correctly (83% pass rate). If they score more than 3 subsets incorrectly, they will be required to attend the next available training session in their area. Please note that calculators will be supplied during the training so errors in addition will not be tolerated.
Delegates are also required to display 100% accuracy in transferring the scores recorded on the Record Form onto the Profile Form. Should delegates transfer the scores incorrectly, they will be sent a pre-populated Record Form and asked to complete a new Profile Form on the information given. This should be completed and returned within 7 days for marking. If completed successfully, the delegate will be sent a certificate of accreditation.
8. How soon will I know if I have passed the
training course?
All delegates who successfully pass the training course will be sent a certificate of accreditation within 14 days.
9. What if I don’t pass the SGS training
course?
Any delegate who does not achieve the 83% pass rate on scoring the Record Form will be required to attend the next available training session in their area. Delegates will be put in touch with an accredited Flying Start professional for mentoring and peer support until the time they do achieve accreditation.
10. Will I receive any kind of acknowledgement
for doing the training course?
Yes. All delegates who pass the SGS training will receive a certificate of accreditation.
11. Will I be able to administer SGS right
after the training course?
You will be able to administer SGS as soon as you have received your certificate of accreditation (i.e. within 14 days of the training course).
12. Is there a number I can call if I have
any problems or queries relating to SGS training?
