Group Reading Test Introduction
The Group Reading Test 6-14 (GRT 6-14) is a popular pupils’ reading test for screening and monitoring.
It measures how pupils are performing compared to their peer group throughout the UK. It also helps check pupils’ overall literacy development in terms of National Literacy Strategy. GRT 6-14 has been developed for use as a short screening/monitoring test for groups of children.
GRT 6-14 incorporates three sets of multiple-choice tests:
Sentence Completion Forms A and B
Two 48-item alternate form test, consisting of an introductory set of picture recognition questions, followed by sentence completion exercises. These tests are also appropriate for screening low ability pupils aged over nine years.
Sentence Completion Forms C and D
Two 45-item alternate form tests of sentence completion skills (age range 9-14 years).
Context Comprehension Forms X and Y
Two 40-item alternate form tests of context comprehension where missing words are supplied for a series of four continuous prose passages (age range 9-14 years).
