Why Choose Online Testing?

Overview

GL Assessment uses Testwise, an online assessment service, to run its digital assessments. Testwise is designed to take the hard work out of administering, scoring and analysing tests. Testwise:

  • provides comprehensive online tests for schools.
  • handles complex reports and analysis generated by a wide range of tests, including standardised assessment.
  • is compatible with school Management Information Systems such as SIMS, so pupil names or class groups can be instantly uploaded to help with test administration.
  • is a robust and secure platform for GL Assessment’s market-leading assessments, such as the Cognitive Abilities Test, Progress in Maths, and the Suffolk Reading Scale.

How does Testwise work?

  • Pupils select from multiple-choice options, dragging and dropping items and manipulating onscreen graphics.
  • Test scores and detailed diagnostic pupil reports are delivered instantly, allowing teachers to evaluate pupils’ needs immediately – saving teachers time and identifying exactly what pupils do and don’t know.
  • Reports provide raw/standardised age score, a current National Curriculum level and indicative National Test levels for each pupil.
  • Teachers can create their own tests to suit the needs of their class: the QCA Digital Test Bank has 3,000 curriculum-linked assessment questions which teachers can draw on to create their own tests, using the in-built authoring tool.
  • Testwise is fully compatible with a school’s Management Information System, so pupil names or class groups can be instantly uploaded to help with test administration: hundreds of names can be uploaded in a moment.
  • Test results can be exported for record keeping or further analysis, saving time for busy teachers and assessment co-ordinators.

Your local consultant is available to help you set up and run tests, when you introduce online testing in your school. You can also find details of your local GL Assessment consultant or call 0845 602 1937 to arrange for them to visit you.

Save Hours of Time with Online Testing

  • Automatic marking eliminates hours of time-consuming work for teachers, allowing them to save valuable time and concentrate on the information provided by the tests
  • Instant analysis of results allows teachers to produce reports quickly and make informed decisions on areas for improvement.  No more waiting around for scores to be generated externally and returned by post.
  • Access to the most popular assessments from the UK’s most trusted assessment provider – GL Assessment.
  • Testwise can be accessed online from any location so teachers can administer tests from home and pupils can take tests wherever there is internet access.

“One of the most exciting developments we have noticed is that students actually enjoy doing assessments now.  If an assignment is online, they do not see it as work or a test.”

Dawn Hooley, Assistant Headteacher, Harman’s Water Primary School

Pupils enjoy online tests!

  • Digital assessments are more colourful than paper tests and they feel fun and less formal
  • Today’s schoolchildren are confident computer users.
  • Access to test questions builds confidence and familiarity, making assessment less intimidating when paper-based tests are taken.
  • Some pupils prefer to work with computer-based tests, which they see as less intimidating than paper-based tests.
  • Pupils with handwriting problems often blossom when asked to use computers.

Take a look at a couple of case studies to see how easily both teachers and pupils have adopted online testing:

Testwise Informs Teaching Decisions

  • Testwise helps set realistic targets for both pupils and teachers
  • Instant reports highlight strengths and needs of individual pupils or class groups.
  • Administration of the tests can be done by any designated teacher, saving time and resource.
  • Results can be exported easily and quickly into a school’s Management Information System, so a permanent record of scores is available to log pupil progress and inform report writing.
  • Testwise clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Teachers can access the questions online from home, making test preparation swift and easy.

Testwise Measures Progress

  • Tracks a pupil’s progress within or across subjects
  • Compares a pupil’s progress within their class or year group and identifies the progress of classes within a school
  • Tracks year-on-year performance of an individual pupil, or a class
  • Measures the progress of a school within an authority
  • Provides comparison of performance against nationally standardised data
