Introduction

Addressing an e-assessment conference at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2004, the Chief Executive of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), Dr Ken Boston, announced “on-screen assessment will shortly touch the life of every learner in this country.”

Girl in Classroom Dr Boston explained that “Advances in technology have given us the opportunity to access and record aspects of human achievement that have been difficult to capture in the past. There is a massive potential to increase participation, learning and performance, making this country more competitive on the world stage.”

Testwise

Testwise is GL Assessment’s online assessment service. It delivers a broad range of leading assessments, including the Cognitive Abilities Test 150,000 pupils took GL Assessment tests through Testwise in 2005, making GL Assessment online tests the most widely used in schools in the UK.

The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), have complied a glossary of terms used in e-assessment, for wide range of education professionals who may not have specialist knowledge of e-assessment but who need an understanding of terms used in e-assesssment.
